Tutorial Fusion 360: Carving up some Cookie Cutter Turkeys

Today we will be carving out some cookie cutters, tools used will be extrusion, SVG file import, and scale.

To start with we will be using a simple SVG when you are creating a cookie cutter the simpler the cutter the better there are many ways this could be done but for our purpose we will be doing an embossed with silhouette giving us some 3d cookies.

To start you’ll need an SVG these can be made in illustrator from any ClipArt but keep in mind that you are making a cookie and there are restrictions to how your cutter needs to work to allow you to pull a cookie out what can be cut or not. Our Cookie Cutter will look like this.

Open

To begin we need to import our SVG file into Fusion you can find this under Insert> Insert SVG located on the top menu bar. Set the view plane to Top then place your cutter. Now to make our cookies we first need to find out the rough size for mine the cookie cutter was around 106MM wide and that’s a bit big for a cookie so removing the SVG and setting the Scale Plane to .85 should give us a more reasonable size.

That gives us a cookie of about 87MM much better for bite size this is an optional step if you want bigger cookies then you can skip it.

Once placed you’ll see this green outlined box but we need to do a bit more to it before we can start extruding.  Hit O for offset while still in sketch mode. 

After this we will have a nice cutting lip but for good measure we should create a second offset but it should be noted you cannot offset an offset. So your first offset will be 1 and your second will be 3, Also the flip option will have to be selected to turn the offset outward.

Once complete you’ll have something like this and be ready to start the embossing work.

How you do this cutting and embossing is up to you to some degree but I will give you an outline of a 3 step embossing cutter.

First step we need is to create the cutting edge. 

Extrude this 8MM.

Next we select the lowest level s

Extrude these 3MM

Extrude these sections 5MM

Finally extrude this 2MM.

After you are all done with those you should have something like this. To see what design your cookie cutter will give you can also take and do a cut.
